  • Prepare, fill, label, and package prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.

  • Ensure prescription labels contain the correct medication directions, or SIG.

  • Review prescription information while filling to confirm the correct medication, strength, dosage form, quantity, and patient.

  • Resolve common insurance claim rejections independently and escalate concerns when appropriate.

  • Prioritize prescriptions based on patient needs and communicate urgent requests to the pharmacist on duty.

  • Process prescriptions in accordance with federal and Virginia pharmacy laws and regulations.

  • Assist with vaccination services within the technician’s training, certification, and authorized scope of practice.

Inventory and Delivery Support

  • Receive, organize, count, and maintain prescription and retail inventory.

  • Perform medication cycle counts and investigate inventory discrepancies.

  • Identify products requiring reorder and communicate purchasing needs.

  • Select the correct medication and package size for each prescription.

  • Maintain clean, safe, and orderly pharmacy workstations, shelving, and retail areas.

  • Package, label, and ship prescriptions for home delivery.

  • Assist with local medication delivery, curbside service, and Meds2Beds activities as assigned.

Communication and Teamwork

  • Regularly update the pharmacist and team members regarding workload and prescription status.

  • Coordinate meal periods and work breaks with the pharmacist on duty.

  • Communicate outstanding work and patient needs during shift transitions.

  • Use professional telephone etiquette with patients, healthcare providers, hospital staff, and coworkers.

  • Participate actively in staff meetings, pharmacy discussions, and training.

  • Recommend practical improvements to pharmacy procedures, workflow, and patient service.

  • Adapt effectively in a growing, mission-oriented pharmacy environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with Meds2Beds, discharge prescriptions, prescription delivery, insurance billing, inventory management, or vaccination services.

  • Familiarity with controlled-substance documentation requirements.
